koukou debut
synopsis: nagashima haruna gave her all to sports in middle school, and is now ready to give her all to love in high school. unfortunately, the fish just aren’t biting. she has studied the magazines and tried to apply the advice on herself, but it just doesn’t seem to work right. fortunately, she happens to encounter komiyama you, the popular guy has a keen eye for all those things that guys want.
commentary: this story is absolutely fun and cute! haruna’s cluelessness is more entertaining than irritating, thank goodness.. and enough that it carries the story through all the problems that could arise from the usual shoujo rivals and miscellaneous hurdles. you is the typical calm-and-cool guy.. but, unlike other manga, he can actually be forced out of his comfort space and into embarrassed admissions. the supporting characters have pretty varied personalities, and it’s rather fresh that the main character can continue to be friends and in good humor with others who may randomly have agendas against them, so that their antagonistic plots can be seen more as personality quirks than actual malice. i’m a little sad that the art dipped pretty low towards the end, but, oh, well… it’s still a cute story.
