Souichirou: No. -35- 1 [Souichirou starts, fiercely adamant.] Souichirou: I heard everything from the people you work with. Souichirou: All you want from me is money, right? Somehow I had a feeling it was going to be about that. 2 [Ryouko turns to look at Arima.] 3 [Arima shouts angrily.] Souichirou: You just wanted to come barging into my life! Don't you even care? Souichirou: I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN! 4 [Arima tries to open the door, but gets distracted.] 5 [Ryouko hugs Arima from behind.] 6 [Tight shot of Arima's shoes. Ryouko is bare-footed.] Souichirou: Get off me. Ryouko: How are you supposed to go back? -36- 1 [Ryouko is now behind Arima, her hand reaching over Arima's shoulder to touch his lips.] Ryouko: You've always been alone, haven't you? It's lonely, isn't it? Ryouko: You don't have a place where you belong. 2 [Arima gives her cold glance.] Souichirou: Better than being with you. 3 [Closeup of Ryouko staring back.] Ryouko: You'll be alone your whole life. 4 [Ryouko lifts her hands to hold Arima's face.] -37- 1 [Arima pushes Ryouko away.] 2 [Arima replies curtly.] Souichirou: Goodbye. 3 [Ryouko starts to look pissed.] 4 [Her expression now turns to disinterest.] Ryouko: Whatever. It's already too late. 5 [Arima turns back to face her.] -38- 1 [Ryouko starts to smoke. She looks bored.] Ryouko: Your mother called at about noon. Ryouko: So I told her. That I'd tell you everything. 2 [Arima starts to glow with anger.] 3 [Picture of the window. The sky outside is dark.] Ryouko: That old hag's got nothing to be so loudmouthed about. She can't even have her own kids. Souichirou: ! Don't tell me.. 4 [Ryouko still looks bored.] Ryouko: Ah.. Like I said. "She can't even have her own kids." 5 [Closeup of Arima's face, his eyes windening.] -39- 1 [Arima pushes Ryouko.] Ryouko: Kyaa!! 2 [Ryouko's struggling on the ground, while Arima tries to strangle her.] Ryouko: What are you doing!? Ryouko: What are you!? Souichirou: Money, right!? You just want some money. Ryouko: Let go of me! Souichirou: Why do you have to mess with my life! 3 [Arima remains rests on his palms, breathing hard. Ryouko's no longer struggling.] 4 [Arima continues breathing hard.] 5 [Ryouko's facial expression grows dark.] 5 [Ryouko rises suddenly, taking Arima aback.] -40- 1 [A dark, shadowy picture of Ryouko. Part of her face is covered by her long hair.] Ryouko: You and your parents Ryouko: you're very close, aren't you? 2 [Arima looks stunned, sweating profusely. The sound of thunder is muffled in the background.] Ryouko: You were raised well Ryouko: in such a rich house... 3 [Flashback: A blurred view of a younger version of Ryouko with curly hair.] 4 [Picture of the current Ryouko, who has straight hair.] 5 [Arima shouts back.] Souichirou: Aren't you the one who threw me away!? Souichirou: You're the one who forgot me and went on to live life the way you wanted to. 6 [Ryouko smiles. Wisps of black clouds appear in the background.] Ryouko: But you were happy. Ryouko: And even so, you thought of me all this time, didn't you. -41- 1 [Arima's eyes widen with sudden realization.] 2 [A white panel.] I understood. The reason why I couldn't ever turn this woman away. 3 [Tight shot of Arima's arm. It's shaking.] 4 [Arima's sweating a little, as he backs to the wall.] 5 [A dark panel with Ryouko's expression shadowed.] 6 [Ryouko grabs onto Arima's sweater, pushing him down.] 7 [They both fall to the ground.] -42- 1 [Ryouko tugs hard at Arima's hair, as he grits his teeth in pain.] Souichirou: ......... 2 [Arima now lies face down on the ground. His mother is stradling him, while her hand pushes him down.] 3 [Closeup on Arima, panting. A few strands of Ryouko's hair is flowing down his face.] Souichirou: I understand. You came to see me just so you could ruin my life. 4 [A black panel.] I'm scared. 5 [Closeup on Ryouko. She's also sweating and panting a little.] Ryouko: When I was 13, my mother's new husband raped me. -43- 1 [Picture of the window. It's still raining outside.] Ryouko: He even brought "neighbors" he liked to have their way with me. That's all my whole life was when I was a kid. Ryouko: When I bled, my mother would tell me "It's your fault!" "You tempted the men into doing it" she'd say. 2 [Ryouko is pale and wild-eyed] Ryouko: Ne. Ryouko: Aren't I pitiful? 3 [Tight shot of Arima's face, as he looks back at her.] 4 [White background with wisps of black clouds.] Ryouko: I've done many things but I was never good at them. His eyes are closed.] 3 [Still immersed in the water, Arima opens his eyes.] 4 [A watery background. His mother's head has turned towards the door behind her. Someone's knocking at their door.] /memory/ Neighbor: Mrs! Please stop that! He's going to die. He's going to die! Ryouko: Shut up! This has nothing to do with you! 7 [A black panel.] This is... -49- 1 [Memory: Same fringes at the top of the panel. Little Arima is looking down at his tiny palm. He twitches with shock.] 2 [Memory: Same fringes at the top of the panel. Little Arima looks further down at his stockined feet.] 3 [Ryouko, her back to the reader, now towers over Little Arima who's lying on the ground.] 4 [Arima's eyes widen as he remembers] -50- 1 [Straps on the locked chest starts to loosen.] 2 [The locked chest starts to open.] 3 [Arima clutches his head, screaming.] Souichirou: UWAAAAAA!!!!!! -51- 1 [Arima-papa smiles gently at the reader.] /memory/ /Arima-papa/ ....So would you like to come with me? 2 [In the hospital. Arima-papa smiles encouragingly, and the nurse beside him looks at the reader in pity.] /Arima-papa/ We're going to take a look at your cuts. It's going to hurt a little, but hang on, ok? /Nurse/ Poor kid... 3 [Arima-mama smiles gently.] /off/ /Arima-mama/ Are you awake? /Arima-mama/ Your fever's gone.
