The female lead of the series,
Miyazawa Yukino is a self-admitted Queen of Vanity.
After hearing praise from her efforts as a child, she decided
that it was the most wonderful sound in the world, and she wanted
more of it. So she took extra pains to make sure she was the best
in everything: looks, smarts, sports, skills. Albeit a normally
loud, lazy girl at home who still takes to wearing her middle
school gym clothes, she's the perfect girl in public.. and
therefore she never allowed anybody to be close to her, so nobody
would ever know her secret.
She had particularly been looking forward to her great high school debut... probably being named speaker for her grade, which would mark her as "best student from the beginning of the school year.. However, somebody else is named speaker... Arima Souichiro...
Expecting her competition to be some big nerd, who therefore would never touch her level of popularity, she is shocked to find that Arima possesses the same qualities she had worked so hard to perfect.
At first, she is determined to destroy him. But after having made her high school debut, surpassing his midterm scores, as well as those of the rest of the students in her grade, she is shocked to receive heartfelt congratulations from him.
Ashamed, she tries to avoid contact with him... But all's in vain. First, he admits that he likes her.. But after rejecting him, he stumbles upon her greatest secret... her real self. Because of this, their relationship doesn't begin too well as he coerces her into doing some of his work in return for keeping his mouth shut. To protect herself, she goes along with his demands readily enough.. But when things take their toll, she decides keeping her identity wasn't worth being a "lackey," the two begin their relationship fro scratch, and this time, promise each other that they would act more like their real selves in public.
