Out of all the girls in school, Maho
probably hated Miyazawa the most.
Having been in Miyazawa's position at the top, in her middle school,
she, too, expected to make her high school debut, but it was all
ruined by Miyazawa, who could beat her at everything. She was sore at
having to take "second place."
So she rallies the girls in their class (1A), commenting that Miyazawa was just trying to catch the attention of the most popular guys in school, that Miyazawa's a fake, and now her mask is slipping cuz her guard is down. (What a nice reception Miyazawa's real self is making.. ^^;) Her scheme goes well, at first, but when she slips and lets Miyazawa realize that she was the ringleader, they have a confrontation, which Maho loses. The girls in class realize that Miyazawa wasn't so stupid that she'd let her personality slip just because of a guy. She must be revelaing her true self on purpose. So they decide to drop Maho's cause. Maho's "lackeys," her so-called friends who had been goading her into resuming her rightful position at the top also abandon her.
But Miyazawa befriends her, and invites her to join her in a new beginning. (Miyazawa is just the best at making the best friends of her worst enemies. ^^;) Of course, Miyazawa's new-found friends weren't all too thrilled, but Sakura decides they can tolerate her cuz she's "not bad-looking."
To add to her story, Maho's position in junior high seems to be borne out of the other students' fear of her instead of respect, like Miyazawa's. At that time, she was introduced to her current boyfriend, who is now a 26-year-old dentist.
